Hello! Glad to see you here. Here is a collection of student resources I’ve located throughout my journey at Barb’s Web Wonders. Some are my finds. Others have been shared by our colleagues as they work their businesses. I must apologize since there is a definite lack of resources on here for those who use Apple products. As I find them, I will add them here. Remember, please, I have zero experience since I don’t have one. How to write Ad Copy – Thanks to Shelia Matchett for sharing this with us all. I use this same technique in order to write ad copy that I think will be effective. Pop off a quick thank you to her since this is a Gold Star Addition. I suggest to read the article through the first time. Then re-read the first paragraph. Make sure you understand and can do what is explained. Each paragraph has gold in it and I’m not talking about the color either.
Communication Websites
Tips for TextNow and Google Voice – One thing I found when working with TextNow that they watch the timing and the number of texts and phone calls you use in the first few months. One way to help with this is to log off properly. This disconnects all of the connections you have. If you’ve been with them forever, then you might want to do this to remove any and all connections to their servers. Don’t just click the X and close the window. Here is where to logout from TextNow
When sending texts follow this: Send the 1st text to the first 5 cards. The post an ad. Next step is to send the 2nd and 3rd text in but to the same person. Do this for everyone for the list of 5 you are working on. Then place an ad.
When calling your leads, let the phone ring at least 10 times on your end. TextNow takes a little bit to connect you with the person you are calling. I’ve never had a phone ring more than 12 times before getting their VoiceMail. I would think that Google Voice would be the same. If someone who uses that would let me know, I would appreciate it greatly!
Computer Stuff
Basic Internet Tutorials (GCFGlobal) – Chrome? Firefox? Edge? What the heck are those? Why is DropBox my friend now that I have a PBS? This section helps with all types of Internet Basics. Remember we ONLY use Chrome as some of the things we do will not work with anything BUT Chrome. Believe me, on this one I tried but lo and behold, my instructor knew more than I did. (smile)
Basic Troubleshooting Steps – Do this BEFORE you contact your Instructor.
Computer Basics (GCFGlobal)- When you hear the word “mouse”, do you automatically jump on a chair? Copy and paste have you flustered? Drop and drag? So many different parts of the computer that need to be known before you get going on your PBS. Now you can learn this on your own
Cryptocurrency (Alison.com) – *Use the search word Cryptocurrency) You’ll learn the basics of the crypto market and get a foothold in the crypto market with this free online masterclass. This also explains why now’s the time to invest in cryptocurrencies and how to preserve and store them for long-term capital gains. Your working capital and net worth will increase as you learn to use exchanges and financial systems.
Vmarketing with MS Clipboard – Once you have this set up and become familiar with this, Clipboard will save your fingers with the smaller amount on typing each of the Text Messages that we send. It’s fairly easy to use, but it does take some effort in the beginning. Take some time to become a little comfortable with this and it will reward you many times over. Actually, I DECREASED the time to send 3 txts, an email and make 25 calls down to about 90 minutes. I am seeing if I can contact 50 each day, so I’ll be playing with this as well. I am using a PAID telephone system since I’ve made such progress getting to a whole column. My next goal is to hit 50 complete contacts.
Windows Assist – A way for you to organize multiple windows without doing the “size it up then size it down” dance. I use this with Windows 11 and am extremely happy with the increase in all aspects of my business. How to for Windows 10 How to for Windows 11
Content Writing
Finding those pesky errors – Your ear is an amazing organ. When combined with the power of your brain, you can be almost unstoppable. When you’ve finished writing your page, read it out loud. Your ear should automatically pick up when something sounds wrong. Then, go to where that passage ends and read it out loud word for word backwards. Yes you will sound funny. If you are bored (never happens here) read it backwards while looking at yourself in the mirror. This time around, your brain should send up red flags to possible errors.
How to create a recipe page– Write about something you know. Click the link to get a step by step guide for creating a recipe page. This information will also work with any page where you want to put a list.
Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs – Ever wonder why you are writing a page, post, or article? Why this particular piece of information will help you solve someone’s problem as it relates to the product you are writing about. Take a look here and you’ll be amazed with the number of different ideas that come to mind.
Google AdSense
Google AdSense 2024 -(SuperWebTricks.com: opens in new window) We all want a quick approval when we apply for Google AdSense. Super Web Tricks has an outline of what the process is for that approval. There are lots of gems in this article that will help you get that approval quickly.
Top AdSense Ad Violations – (MonetizeMore.com: opens in new window) Some days it’s difficult to create pages and on other days it’s a piece of cake. Take a minute to review some of the reasons you might run into. BE Careful before you write on what might be a controversial topic.
Google Apps
Google Apps (GCFGlobal) such as Google Calendar, Google Docs and Google Sheets can be confusing to anyone. There are enough differences between the major brands of word processors, spreadsheet creation, and even Email! There are more tutorials on this website for Google Apps than any other I’ve seen. Take some time to run through each of them even if you think you are confident. These are really good for how to set up different things that you may not even know they can do!
Google Trends – Learn more about this amazing tool! Learning to define Google Trends will help in creating pages to market our products. Scroll down the page to locate the tutorials. You might even want to subscribe to the newsletter!
Graphics
Beginning Graphic Design (GCFGlobal)- A great beginning tutorial on how to put together some pretty cool info that will help you in creating your own designs.
Canva – (GCFGlobal)- Canva is a magnificent online graphics creator. Very easy to learn and once you do, there’ll be no stopping you while you are creating pages for offers both old AND new. The tutorials that can be accessed via the link above are easy to listen to and gives those much needed answers…how do I Do what others are doing without hurting my brain or taking a left turn at Albuquerque!
Image Editing (GCFGlobal)- Learn more about how and when to edit images. Very good tutorial
Teleprompter – Have you tried to make a video? Can’t remember what you’re supposed to say? Have you tried taping the words to your monitor and end up looking like you are reading the words from a piece of paper you’ve taped to your monitor? This is an easy way to create your own teleprompter. Look directly into your camera and STILL see the words you want to say to your viewers. Copy and paste your text into the box provided and follow the instructions. Professional looking.

Readability Scores – How to use Mrs. Yoast to increase traffic and a good readability score.
Readability Scores– Here is a site that will crawl your entire website and give you word count, number of sentences and a Readability Score that will tell how easy the page is read.
Social Media Sites
Banned #Hashtags – Hashtags are not only fun, but help you to put your site, stories, ads in front of the right people. There are so many hashtags, some good others not so good. Here is a list of hashtags that have been banned. I believe that our MSI Sheila Matchett put this list together for us. Check here before using any hashtag that you are not positive of.
Top 21 Social Media Pages – 2023’s listing of the Top 21 Social Media pages. This web post also shows the number of Monthly Active Users (MAU). Other data is included in the totals, but isn’t broken out.
Tech It Easy: Simple and Smart Solutions – All Issues eventually will be added to a category page when you click on the link in the section. I’ll post the pages in chat and when there are a few more of them, I’ll add it in like a category page.
WordPress Tips
Power Words – Ms. Shelia Matchett to the rescue again. Here is a list of power words that helps your readers to feel a certain way when they read your sites. This spreadsheet has been updated many times.
Transition and Passive Voice – Drives me nuts when modifying pages or even creating my own pages. Transition and Passive Voice made my life more difficult but I totally understand why these words and phrases are so important! They help to keep your pages looking new, among other things. So take a look at this site if you hare having difficulties in getting the green over green.
