The Fourth of July, also known as Independence Day, is a special holiday in the United States. On this day, Americans celebrate the adoption of the Declaration of Independence, which declared the United States a free and independent nation. This day is celebrated with parades, fireworks, and barbecues. It is a time to remember and observe the time when the United States became its own country and won freedom from England. This momentous event occurred when the thirteen colonies became an independent nation.

History of Independence Day

This essential document stated that the colonies would no longer be ruled by Britain and we were becoming our own country. The Declaration of Independence is seen as a powerful symbol of democracy and has inspired people all over the world who continue to for their freedom.

Celebrating Independence Day

On July 4th, Americans come together to celebrate the birth of our nation. Many ways to celebrate our history on this day. Some of the most popular ways are watching fireworks displays, having barbecues with family and friends, attending parades, having picnics in the park, and going to festivals or events.

  • Fireworks are a huge part of Fourth of July celebrations. They light up the night sky with beautiful colors and patterns to treat our eyes.   • Friends and families come together to enjoy food and treats cooked outside and enjoy the companionship of the groups. Many play backyard games such as football or soccer.
  • Cities of every size have parades. The children start watching down the street as they hear the boom boom of the drums as the bands and other entries come marching down the street. Each float and their decorations symbolize the patriotic feel of the day.
  • Picnics are a great way to enjoy the summer weather with loved ones. Packing a basket full of snacks, finding a nice spot in the park, and relaxing on a blanket is a perfect way to spend the day.
  • Hiking is another option. Bring some treats and drinks and go on an easy hike with the whole family. Making sure to return in time for the fireworks.
  • Lastly, attending a festival or event is a fun way to celebrate. There are all kinds of activities happening, like concerts, car shows, and food festivals.
