Mill Hollow

Looking for a new destination for your camping adventures? Try Mill Hollow Campground and Reservoir located in the Uintah National Forest in Utah.

If you are looking for a beautiful wooded area suitable for camping, look no further! Mill Hollow Campground and Reservoir is the place to be. I must admit, though, that we were camp hosts for many years. The Campground is with its beautiful Firs and Aspen trees, create the most beguiling of scents. The amount of wildlife inside the grounds include, deer, moose, porcupines, ground squirrels and even a badger or two. In all the time we were there, we never saw a bear. Please remember that these animals are wild and their behavior is unpredictable. Keep your distance to remain safe.

Fun Memories at Mill Hollow

There is a porcupine in Site 4 who loves to pose for pictures He seems to pose for everyone who saw him. There was a couple who reserved this site each year until we left. She always said she had trained him to do each pose. A short but polite explanation begins. Animals posing or other interactions lose their fear of people. It also increases the dependency on people for food. During the winter with no people, the animals suffer from the loss of food.

The Reservoir is home to a wide variety of fish. According to my late husband, you can catch a ton of fish by tapping the tip of your fishing pole on the water, then throw out a combo bait ball of cheese and worms. Everyone who has tried that (I was surprised that so many people had done so) had caught some beautiful trout. Even Albino Trout are stocked along with Tiger Trout and Rainbow.

While fishing is not my forte, there is some pretty decent hiking trails that branch out from the campsites. The one I loved the most was the short hike around the reservoir. I could always count on seeing wildlife pretty much any time of day. The walk was pretty quiet and there were a few places you could sit on a log and see the fish jumping from the water. At least twice each year, we would see a moose. Deer were pretty much a daily wonder as they fed throughout the campground.

One camper brought her daughters up to take them fishing. The family became fast friends and her daughters had a “war” with Ken. Causing a rash of pranks on each other while. One of my favorite memories is all the people we met. I truly miss being up there each year.
